On July 4, 2019, an undergraduate team composed of students in the experimental class of data science and artificial intelligence won the first place in the pure English ICCEM international competition held by Tsinghua University.

The 12th ICCEM Architecture and Management Innovation Competition Final was held in the New Water Conservancy Museum of Tsinghua University. At the beginning of the competition, the host welcomed the teams that entered the final and announced the start of each group's exhibition, the order of which was decided by drawing lots the day before. An all-female undergraduate team from the School of Mathematics and Statistics (16-level Ma Yuening, 17-level Li Tianran, Cao Xiaoli, 18-level Huang Heyuan) successfully entered the final and conducted live demonstration and defense in pure English in the final, which was unanimously approved by the judges and the audience.

At the beginning of the exhibition, Huang Heyuan led the team to greet the judges and the audience. The team members introduced themselves one after another. Later, Huang Heyuan began to introduce the background and characteristics of the project and demonstrated the working process of scanner hardware with Ma Yuening. Huang Heyuan was responsible for the explanation and Ma Yuening was responsible for the hardware control. After Ma Yuening turned on the scanner camera, the audience waved their hands to interact with the camera, and the images were displayed on the large screen simultaneously. The effect was excellent. Later, Cao Xiaorui introduced the hardware structure and Ma Yuening explained the principle of the algorithm. Finally, Li Tianran summarized the project and expanded its application. 

Only two of the eleven teams that entered the finals were made up of pure undergraduates, and the rest were postgraduate and doctoral teams. After the presentation of the eleven teams, the host presented the award. The undergraduate team of the school of Mathematics and Statistics won the first place in the whole group and the first place in the undergraduate group. In addition, the team led by Bi Jialin ranked 16th in the preliminary competition and won the Excellence Award.

The competition demonstrated the creativity, scientific research spirit and team spirit of the students in the experimental class of the School of Mathematics and Statistics of Shandong University, and set an example for the students in future scientific research.
